Socio-economic Analysis of the Informal Economy in San Diego County
Kubánková, Marie Alice ; Szobi, Pavel (advisor) ; Hornát, Jan (referee)
In the academic field the informal economy is vaguely represented and most of the research is focused on developing countries with many socio-economic issues. The informal economy in the developed world, mainly the European Union and the United States of America, has a minor share in the world's informal economy, as such it is not commonly discussed among academics. Some countries around the world are actively trying to battle this sector to minimalize it and thus minimalize its impact on the state economy and on the individual communities. To implement more effective policies it is important to know which factors are most conducive to the prevalence of the informal economy. Finding those factors became the aim of this paper. Owing to the fact that there is a lack of research conducted in the developed countries about the informal economy the main focus of the thesis is the geographical area of San Diego County, predominantly for its diverse demographics. The factors are identified and analyzed in detail in chapter 4. In "Discussion" the factors are evaluated to reveal the most conducive ones. It has been determined that the most conducive factors are "burdensome regulation" and "individual preferences". Additionally factors that influence the informal economy in San Diego County are "low...
Analysis of the purchasing power of wages in the Czech Republic between 2004-2017
Vodžák, Milan ; Štípek, Vladimír (advisor) ; Ševčíková, Michaela (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to analyze the purchasing power of wages in the Czech Republic, which achieves very poor results. I discuss the market, historical and institutional factors that can cause wage differences on the basis of comparison with the states of Europe. I analyze the popular problem with the economic apparatus and propose solutions that can prevent the outflow of a qualified workforce and raise the living standards of the population. On a theoretical basis, I discuss the labour productivity and its possible causes, which are mainly human capital and technological equipment. Further, I explain the historical context of the socialist era and the institutional factors in the labour markets. In the practical part, using the causal analysis and comparison, I find, with the help of the Human Development Index, the states with high standards of living, that I compare with the Czech Republic. I detect, that investing in education or research and development has no clear impact on labour productivity, which is low in Czech Republic. Historical data confirm, that in the monitored period 2004-2017, Czech wages grew more than wages in Western Europe, but the wage approach is far away. I also analyze the impact of high labour costs, civil servants, governmental and currency interventions, and lastly, I show forecasts of purchasing power evolution, that seems positive.

Based on the comparative method, both cities are first analysed from the perspective of chosen standards of living and then compared. According to gathered information for this thesis, it claims that the standards of living were slightly higher in Liberec than for the inhabitants of Hejnice. The chosen differences were however not that significant.

Discussions regarding resources depletion and populations are currently at the forefront of society. Against each other are standing groups of supporters and groups of critics of Thomas Malthus. The objective of this thesis is economic analysis of threats and benefits of the current population development with regard to theories of both groups. To the solution is used statistical data of the World Bank, through which it assesses the situation in selected countries and in the world. Nowadays dominates critic's opinions rather, which are pointing to the improving condition of the planet. Population growth has slowed down in recent years and the population is close to its peak, which would open possibilities for increasing human capital, which is the most important resource that we have. Ensuring the growth of human capital has the potential to provide solving future problems related to the lack of existing natural resources.

Čermák, Jiří ; Němcová, Ingeborg (advisor) ; Karpová, Eva (referee)
The aim of master thesis is finding answers to the question, if inhabitants of western Europe are happier than inhabitants of eastern Europe. I want to compare standards of living in these regions based on the indexes of living standards. Further I want find out, if the happiness is measurable. Europe during the economic crisis has shown that GDP of countries slowed down, but is this economic indicator showing happiness of nations? Does it present satisfaction and well-being of the population? Can we identify some relation or dependence between GDP and happiness of the population? What are the indicators that are able to answer this question? A substantial part of my work will be comparison of the individual indexes of living standards and I will specify, what means standard of living and what are the components. In the practical part I want to compare reality in different areas of human life, which is related to the standard of living and to compare these data between the nations in western Europe and eastern Europe.
